Conditions of Entry

 

1 Entry in the New Zealander of the Year Awards is free and open to all New Zealand citizens.

2 Nominees must be New Zealand citizens and residing in New Zealand for a minimum of two years prior to nomination.
3 People currently residing outside of New Zealand temporarily due to work or study commitments are still eligible to enter.
4 Awards cannot be granted posthumously.
5 Judges will consider a nominees’ achievements and contributions over the calendar year, as well as their
achievements and contributions over a longer period of time.
6 Nominations may only be made on this official form submitted via post, courier, facsimile or via www.nzawards.org.nz.
7 All current national and local government politicians may be considered for Awards, only on the basis of work completed outside of their role or duties as a public servant.
8 Nominees must be at least 15 years of age as at the close of nominations.
9 Nominations for community groups, couples, committees etc. will only be accepted in Community of the Year and the Local Heroes category. The nomination of community groups,couples, committees etc in the Local Heroes will need to be approved by the awards office.
10 Unsuccessful nominees may re-nominate in subsequent years.
11 The Local Heroes category will have one national winner. Local Heroes medals will be judged and presented regionally with up to 10 medals awarded in each of 15 regions according to each regional judging panel’s discretion. Past recipients of Local Heroes medals are not eligible for a 2012 Local Heroes medal but are eligible for the national Local Heroes award.
12 An individual may be nominated in more than one category if appropriate. Multiple nominations, however, must be made separately and each nomination must carry its own nomination form and supporting material.
13  The New Zealander of the Year Awards reserves the right to enter nominations in additional award categories as deemed appropriate. Every effort will be made to inform nominators and nominees of this.
14  It is permissible to contact the awards office for guidance and support during compilation of a nomination.
15 All nomination information and material submitted remains the property of the awards office and will not be returned unless previously arranged.
16 Nominees will be encouraged to make themselves available without cost for publicity purposes as required prior to and after the Gala Awards Presentation Dinner.
17 Nominees agree to allow the use of their nomination information for publicity purposes.
18 Those selected as finalists should be available to attend the Gala Awards Presentation Dinner at the Langham Hotel, Auckland in February 2012 (Inability to attend does not disqualify entry).
19 The Judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
