Sample Nomination

 

To help you get started writing your nomination, here is a pretty basic example of a written summary for the Local Heroes category. Written summaries can be up to 2000 words. Please note that the person, organisation and the information is all made up. LOCAL HEROES WRITTEN SUMMARY

1. Nominees Name: Jane Bloggs

2. 100 word summary. (Who is the person? What do they do? etc)

Jane lives in New Plymouth with her husband Joe. She has been a volunteer for the Taranaki North Scout troop for 11 years. In this time she has been a troop leader, committee member and arranged countless fundraisers. She is always the first person to put up her hand to volunteer and organise anything that needs to be achieved and her hard work has seen the Taranaki North Scout troop be able to send over 200 boys and girls to two Jamboree and countless camps and character building activities.
 
3. Their initiative and leadership capacity

Jane has been our local scout leader for 9 years and also chairperson of the local committee. She has organised fundraising which has raised over $20,000 to send the troop to 2 national Jamborees. She leads up to 5 camps per year for the troop of 40+ children aged 8 -12.

4. Their role in  the group or organisation for which they have been involved

Jane has been a troop leader, committee member and arranged countless fundraisers. Both of her children are now too old for Scouts yet Jane continues to be involved.

5. Number of hours committed paid or unpaid

Jane would commit 8-10 hours per week of unpaid work.

6. Contribution to their community

Jane is one of those people who just puts her head down and get things done. Everything Jane has done has been completely voluntary, with a real focus on getting children especially those whose families may not be able to afford it involved in Scouts. She often organises fundraisers to support these disadvantaged children.

7. Commitment to their own personal development by participation in courses, forums or conventions and other training opportunities

Jane often travels, at her own expense, to undertake Scout leader training courses. She has also become a qualified abseiling instructor, all at her own expense, to provide this activity for the troop members.

8. Length of service

Jane has been a volunteer for the Taranaki North Scout troop for 11 years.

9. Outcomes achieved

Jane’s hard work has seen the Taranaki North Scout troop send over 200 boys and girls to two Jamborees and countless camps and character building activities. She has been a huge influence as a leader and role model to over 200 former and current Scouts.
